We were commissioned to design and manufacture a bespoke reception desk by the management team at the Millenium Gallery in Sheffield City Centre. The Millienium Gallery is run by the charity Museums Sheffield and is regarded as Sheffield's premier destination for art, craft and design.
We produced initial concept sketches and ideas, along with a small 3D scaled model and a materials pallette to work with. After the client meeting in which we settled on one specific idea, Ollie developed the design towards a final piece. We then produced full 3D CAD renders and visuals to show our final design.
Once agreed, we set about making the final piece, the material pallette was simple and honest, with Birch Plywood, Black Laminted Birch Plywood and Stainless Steel for the plinth at the base.
For this project we invested in the purchase of a state of the art CNC mahcine which allows the automated cutting of digital files in timber sheet. This was primarily to aid batch production, increase efficiency and raise quality standards.
Each piece was meticulously designed, catalogued and input into a cutting file, which saw us using around 280 separate components to build the finished reception desk.
